How to stewardship in the Game of Poker

What does it mean to ” steward” in poker? It simply means to act as if you are the dealer. In other words, to act as if you are the person that the poker dealer is when playing a hand of poker.

This may seem like a trivial distinction, but it is actually quite important. The reason for this is because if you are the dealer and you know that you will be the dealer again with more cards, you must draw more cards from the deck. Or, at least, you must discard once you have no more new cards to deal.

This is pretty much the standard operating manual for pretty much any casino on the planet. Well, almost any casino since then has demanded that the security staff at the poker room be on the look out for card counters. Of course, the easiest way to deal would be to have them surround you while you are sitting at a table. It is fairly easy to beat the house in poker without breaking any rules, so it wouldn’t hurt to have the Hoyts out there watching you.

Chatting is another great way to lose your focus. You should never, ever communicate with the other players in the card room. Why? Why would you even wish to communicate with them anyway? You’re a pokerace99 player; you don’t need to communicate with anyone. However, that doesn’t mean that you can’t.

You may want to chat with the friendly dealers that make the rounds and the slot attendants that come around to ask you for your photo. However, just like you don’t want your dealer to know that you’re a card counter, you don’t want the occasional mouth breather or the friendly front desk person to know that you’re a card counter. They don’t need to know, but they can sure as heck know that you’re a counter.

You can also choose not to be a singles player. If you’re a single, or more specifically, a single-FINER card counter, you can get away with some pretty audacious cheats, provided that you are single. By single, I mean that you are either single (fairly heavy) or single-FINER (fairly light).

The Hoyts make a solid impression on the rookies that they take under their tuition, and classes like those are why they were introduced to poker in the first place. The rookies may be intimidated by the millionaire poker players, but the Hoyts are more than prepared to teach the newbie the tokes of Texas Hold’em.

The rookies during these first few months will be all over the place trying to learn how to play the game. They’ll be nervous and uncertain and you’ll want to have a hand in the action. Try holding a low-limit home game for a while and allowing the newbies to observe. Let them make the mistakes that the pros make, and encourage ganging up against them.

This may seem like a slippery slope, but hold your breath. A good hand can get some elbows scrape. It’s all part of the game and it happens all the time at home, tournaments, and in the big leagues.

If you want to be one of the seasoned veterans of the game, then you better start backing up your bets.
